Unlike the comparatively stable application environment of standard memory modules, the environment in which industrial computers operate is often very hot and highly polluted. In the face of environmental pollution, electronic components exposed to high temperature, humidity and pollution are often prone to sulfuration, weakening and damaging products.

Silver sulfide formation

In a highly polluted environment, excess concentration of airborne sulfur-containing particles (H2S) can easily react with silver (Ag) used in the electrode to form silver sulfide (Ag2S) which is non-conductive. As sulfuration increases, resistance value will also increase, eventually causing an open circuit.

Apacer anti-sulfuration memory modules use special alloy materials as passive components, which have passed the ASTM B809-95 anti-sulfuration test, allowing them to operate steadily even in a harsh sulfur-containing environment to meet high industrial standards.

Anti-sulfuration technology comparison

The most common anti-sulfuration method is to cover an sulfur-tolerant layer to protect the electrode, which prevents silver from reacting with sulfur-containing gases and increases sulfur tolerance of the electrode. However, the anti-sulfuration performance of this method is rather unstable due to process failure, such as layer shift or layer failure.
